Edward Tisdale
Chief Information Officer

In eighth grade, Edward’s interest in computers was sparked when he saw his first Apple computer as it was unveiled, with little fanfare in his Algebra class; everyone else thought it was a typewriter. The next year he signed up for an elective computer programming class in high school, only to arrive at class the first day to find he was the only student enrolled. Alone every day in class, he taught himself Pascal, COBOL, BASIC and FORTRAN. He later won a state programming competition. He still describes visiting the Cray Supercomputer facility at Florida State University on a school field trip as the most incredible moment of his life. This was a time before Microsoft Windows.

After winning a computer science scholarship and completing his degree, Edward started working as the business manager of a progressive agricultural consulting firm. After weeks of research trying to find someone to design a web page for the company and realizing how expensive it was, he decided to do it himself, formally starting his career in computers and the Internet.

His design caught the attention of the technical officer of an up-and-coming credit reporting agency and he was hired to bring an Internet presence to the company, a new market at the time. After completing the company’s web site and left to his own devices, he found the source code to the company’s proprietary Windows software which he rewrote as a web-based application using the beta version of Microsoft Active Server Pages. It accidentally caught the interest of the company president and eight months later, the web application overtook the Windows application in revenue and two months later completely replaced the legacy Windows application.

For the last decade Edward has worked designing networks and data centers, developing, modeling and maintaining ultra highly-available multi-terabyte databases, and authoring enterprise-wide web applications for the United States Navy.

Edward lives with his family in his hometown, Pensacola, Florida where he surfs and writes iPhone applications in his spare time. He has a top secret clearance and is a Microsoft Certified Database Administrator.
